Holy crap, Liam and Matt play Arcade’s Revenge! I actually had this game as a kid and this video fills me with frustrating memories of how hard that game was. I feel a little better now knowing that the game was garbage in addition to my poor gaming skills back then.

So someone swapped in the Attack on Titan theme on the opening for Sailor Moon Crystal and this was the result.

Holy shit

do most anime openings got like a pacing system going on? cuz when I was in the 10th grade I tried swapping the 2nd Naruto opening with the OP music from at least 6 different animes and every single one of them worked flawlessly

they actually do, they’re very formulaic.

I feel like it’s time to bring this back.

"In the name of the Moon, I will kill all the titans!"

So I turned 26 yesterday (7/19)…

Eating sushi, getting drunk, and watching Sakasama no Patema, Psycho-Pass Extended Edition, and Tokyo Ghoul with my friends who don’t normally watch anime = awesome birthday in my book

I saw this and I immediately thought it was Pat (if he had more hair) from Two Best Friends Play getting a Yu Nurakami haircut.

[OFA] Ranko Kanzaki Lightsaber Performance

I wish PS4 was backwards compatible, because I would totally import this, with or without the power of the Sith.

My anime list this season was so short before…

What am I doing?! How did my list get this long?!

  • Akame ga Kill! - It had the word “Kill” in the title and that got my attention. First episode got pretty dark, so it made the list.
  • Aldnoah.Zero - Created by Urobuchi Gen and music by Sawano Hiroyuki . Sounds like a win to me.
  • Barakamon - Cute child character (actually voiced by a child) won me over, looks like the heart-warmer for this season.
  • Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - Binged Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero and Carnival Phantasm last year. I watched the first season of Prisma Illya and I wanted more Archer Iilya / Kuro (Chloe?) von Einzbern.
  • Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yatte Mita. - Hair design reminded me of Oreimo. Cute characters, exaggerated face are a plus.
  • Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - First episode had me smiling the whole time. Great comedy, also with super exaggerated faces. This looks to be my romcom for the season.
  • Glasslip - Not sure about this one. Really can’t get into the story after the first 2 episodes. Don’t like any of the character for some reason. Might get dropped.
  • Himegoto - The episode was 4 minutes. Why not?
  • Jinsei - Liked the GJ-bu reference in the beginning, Good comedy, athletic girl is best girl in my opinion.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam-san - Why would this not be on my list? Comedy shorts with Gundam characters.
  • Rail Wars! - Didn’t know what to expect, turned out to be a really fun show to me.
  • Shirogane no Ishi: Argevollen - While I can’t get into most of the mech designs in this show, the lead “Krieger” looks pretty awesome. That and engineer girl reminds me of Kuriyama Mirai from Kyoukai no Kanata. Maybe it’s the glasses.
  • Sword Art Online II - I like Sword Art Online (Mostly. I’ve fallen behind on the light novels. Last I read was Vol.10: Alicization Running). I loved the Phantom Bullet arc and Sinon so I’m looking forward to seeing how this adaptation turns out.
  • Tokyo ESP - Off my radar until my tumblr showed me a gif of Yomi and Kagura from Ga Rei: Zero (which I watched before, then binged the manga in like 3 days). Takes place in the same universe, super violent, good action, even had a cameo from PCDH agents Toru and Natsuki (also in Ga Rei: Zero).
  • Tokyo Ghoul - All aboard the hype train. I really like it so far. Kind of ashamed of myself that that I didn’t recognize the lovely Hanazawa Kana until the second episode.

As you can see, I watch shows for very random reasons. I also finally broke down and started watching Shinryaku! Ika Musume for my morning commute. Debating on Persona 4 Golden and Psycho-Pass Extended, as they’re both pretty much the same story with some new scenes (and a new character in P4’s case)  I guess. We’ll see.

"I’m Destroyer Shimakaze. When it comes to speed I’m the best there is, swift like the island breeze!"

Introducing the long-awaited Shimakaze, from the free-to-play online game Kantai Collection, or Kancolle, which features anthropomorphized WWII naval battleships. This game’s popularity has been skyrocketing recently, with an anime coming out this fall.  I personally have no experience with the Kancolle game, but the character designs for a lot of the ships drew me in. Shimakaze in particular is featured in a lot of the promotional material for the series, so that’s probably why she’s the first in the Kancolle figma line.

Figma Shimakaze is based off of the Japanese Destroyer Shimakaze. The Shimakaze was equipped with an high-temperature, high-pressure steam engine, which made her one of the world’s fastest destroyers in her time. This is her point of pride, according to a lot of her dialogue in the game. Shimakaze’s overall design is extremely cute. She is outfitted in a sailor collar, white elbow-high gloves, an extremely small mini-skirt, a thong, red & white thigh-highs, high-ruddered boots, and she wears a ribbon styled like rabbit ears (she’s fast, remember?). She is also the exact opposite of the figma in my last review. Unlike Super Sonico, she is EXTREMELY skinny/slender and flat-chested. I guess the argument can be made that this would make her more aerodynamic, therefore faster in the water.

In terms of articulation, Shimakaze’s great. She’s one of the 2.0s, so she has the new ball-jointed wrists, which are really starting to grow on me. Because of how little she is wearing and how thin she is, she has very unrestricted movement. The only movement issues you may have are the ankles and the head. The tails of her hair are hard plastic, but it is jointed, which is well hidden. In spite of this, it can be difficult to rotate her head left and right, especially when you equip her torpedo pack. Since she is wearing high-heeled boots, she doesn’t have much of a ankle rocker. She has great forward and backward ankle movement though. I also have to give props to her torso movement, which has excellent range.

Paint application is top-notch, as expected from a figma. There is great color separation and my figure has almost no paint splotches. The stripes on her thigh-highs are very crisp and clean. I really like the gold used on her buttons, collar, and gloves. It’s very bright and really pops out against the white and blue. The her thong strings are sculpted onto her hips and painted. I originally thought they would be a separate piece, but this makes more sense as a black movable piece constantly rubbing on her hips would probably cause staining. The blue paint on her skirt, despite how short it is, can rub off onto her legs with enough movement. Nothing a q-tip and weak rubbing alcohol can’t clean.

For accessories, Shimakaze comes with:

  • 3 Faceplates: Normal (kind of a blank expression. Reminds me of Renge from Non Non Biyori), Battle face (teeth gritted), and Damaged/Embarrased.
  • 5 Pairs of Hands: Closed fist, open splayed fingers, pointing, holding, and relaxed-open (for salutes)
  • Torpedo Launcher Back-pack. Pegs into her back and has a ball-joint for articulation. The actual launcher has a peg hole for figma stand
  • 3 Rensouhou-chans: Shimakaze’s familiars, representing her 3 twin 12.7cm naval turrets. They come in small, medium, and large. Small and Medium have no articulation, save for left and right head rotation. The Large has articulated “feet” rudders, “arm” rudders, a ball-jointed neck, and you can rotate his barrels up and down. All 3 come with a clear circular stand they can peg into.

Overall, Shimakaze is a great figma and one of the cuter designs in my collection. I highly recommend her. She sold out fast when she was up for pre-order, which really shows how popular she is compared to the other Kancolle figmas coming out  (Only matched so far by the AGP Yamato by Bandai). She retailed around $60, $50 (not including shipping) if you pre-ordered from AmiAmi. She is still sold out at most retailers, with ebay prices averaging at about $90. Now to wait for other ships to deploy.

See Shimakaze in action!

I really wish they’d have a 3rd season (not counting Roberta’s Blood Trail as a 3rd season). I mean, c’mon! They made an animated ad for volume 10 release! Or at least give me some Black Lagoon Figmas or S.H. Figuarts, because that Revoltech Revy is tiny.

An Island Breeze arrives just in time for summer!
